Potable water systems demand materials that protect water quality over decades of service. Multitubo multilayer composite pipe (MLCP) is specified for tap water distribution, sanitary connections, and combined plumbing-heating installations where a single pipe material must perform reliably across temperature ranges and water chemistries.

Tap Water and Sanitary Distribution

MLCP serves cold and hot water distribution networks in residential towers, hotels, hospitals, and commercial buildings. The PE-RT Type II inner layer provides a smooth, inert surface that does not corrode, pit, or accumulate mineral deposits over the product life — addressing a primary concern with traditional metal pipe in hard-water regions.

Press-fit and push-fit connection options allow rapid installation without soldering or threading, reducing contamination risk during construction and enabling phased commissioning of building zones.

PE-RT Type II for Sanitary and Heating

Multitubo MLCP uses PE-RT Type II (polyethylene of raised temperature resistance) for both inner and outer polymer layers. This material grade is selected for its suitability across sanitary and heating applications:

  • Approved temperature range from −40°C to +95°C for building services.
  • Excellent chemical resistance to common water treatment additives and disinfectants.
  • Recyclable polymer content supporting sustainable building certifications.
  • Consistent performance whether carrying cold potable water or heated DHW circuits.

The aluminum core provides dimensional stability and an oxygen barrier, while the polymer layers ensure that water contacts only corrosion-free surfaces throughout the distribution network.

Smooth Surfaces — No Corrosion or Deposits

Internal corrosion and biofilm adhesion are persistent challenges in metal pipe systems. MLCP's smooth polymer bore maintains its hydraulic characteristics over time, supporting consistent flow rates and reducing energy consumption in pumped distribution systems.

Lead-free brass G2 and METAL press fittings complement the pipe system for potable applications, while PPSU fittings serve higher-temperature DHW branches. Together, the Multitubo system minimizes contact between drinking water and materials that could leach contaminants or degrade water taste.

Pressure Testing Protocol for Drinking Water Pipes

Multitubo applies coordinated production and quality control processes to ensure reproducible pipe performance. Before handover, drinking water installations should be pressure tested according to project specifications and local regulations. A typical protocol for MLCP systems includes:

  1. Visual inspection — confirm all press and push connections are complete, with G2 360° inspection windows verified where applicable.
  2. Static pressure test — fill the system with water and raise pressure to the specified test value (commonly 1.5× operating pressure or per local code), holding for the required duration.
  3. Leak inspection — examine all joints, fittings, and terminations for signs of weeping or pressure drop on the gauge.
  4. Flushing and disinfection — flush the completed system and apply disinfection procedures as required before commissioning for potable use.
  5. Documentation — record test pressures, hold times, and results for building handover packages.
